THAI STORY

The River of Kings II - City of Angels", a light and sound musical is scheduled to open in Bangkok from 24 January through to February 1, 2001.
It rides on the success of the spectacular "River of Kings" epic presented last year. However the two events are unrelated and vary significantly in their objective and tone.
While the original "The River of Kings" presentation offered an awe-inspiring historical account tracing the glorious past of the kingdom, "The River of Kings II - City of Angels" is an enchanting musical about a make believe city - City of Angels.
The fascinating tale of this city is told in nine acts. They are City of Angels, the Golden Peninsula, Undercurrent, The Great Colonialism Storm, Civilisation, Destiny, Realised, Return of the Dheva and From Heaven to Earth. Staged at the Ratchaworadit Royal Landing riverside location, "The River of Kings II - City of Angels" takes the form of an outdoor on-the-river theatre, the first of its kind to be seen in Thailand. The magnificent view of The Grand Palace by night provides a majestic natural backdrop and adds a real-life regal aspect to this 45-minute long musical fantasy featuring a cast of 400 actors, many of whom are well-known international artists of Thai nationality who were in the starring role of the Thai version of Walt Disney classics such as Beauty and the Beast, Pocahontas and The Lion King.
A variety of special effects such as laser vision and animation, dancing fountains of various shapes, movie-projection onto a 35 metre water-screen, pyrotechnics and rockets will be used to heighten the magical aspect of this 60 million baht musical fantasy. Furthermore the "Nights at Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn" light and sound presentation offers a related attraction.
Unlike the 1999 presentation where spectators were ferried from one stage location to another, the musical will be presented in its entirety in one riverside location - the Ratchaworadit Royal Landing, and is viewed either from a cruiser or a 800-seat floating arena of Japanese design. There will be a total of 27 performances over the nine days from 24 January through to February 1, 2001.
